It was a pleasure to be invited to participate in the ‘BBC Share Your Story‘ project, currently running across the UK, to showcase the importance of storytelling in daily life. We were invited to join the BBC team at Callington Community College, to speak to students from years 8-13, giving them first-hand accounts of early steps in creative industries.
Matt Prince, one of our Web Developers attended the event to speak to the secondary school students, as part of a total panel of 3 professionals, hosted by Matty Chiabi, Radio 1 Presenter and DJ. Other panellists attending were Liam Richards – Shooting Researcher at the BBC, originally from Exeter, and Jay Stone – Freelance Content Creator based in Plymouth.
The personal accounts of stepping into the world of creative industries, from all members at the event, were intended to take some of the uncertainty and worry away from the students looking to pursue this kind of career. Not everyone follows the same route, and there is by no means a set path! With Matt taking a setback academically early on – then persevering, in order to find an environment that suited him best – web development; Liam not having appeared in lessons perhaps as much as he should of, at school, but still pushing on, resulting in working across the world, and Jay not starting photography until his mid 20’s, but now working at festivals, events and weddings across the country.
We are delighted to have been invited to join everyone on this day and hope that the students enjoyed the time, taking away some reassurance that if you keep going through good times, and bad, doing something that you love, you’ll no doubt find success. With a new insight into the world of Web Design & Development and SEO Services, we look forward to seeing the progress, and potentially working with some of the students in the future!
